See also AIT and oat An Ait (or Eyot) is a riverine island in England. They are formed by the deposition of sediment that build over a period of time. Aits usually have a bar shape and may become islands. Some are known to be eroded however, the sediment is deposited further down the river to create another ait. A channel with numerous aits is called a braided channel.
