:This page is for the topic of adepts in Magick, for other uses of adept, see Adept (disambiguation) An Adept is one who shows knowledge, skill or aptitude in Magick. Adepts are identified in many subjects pertaining to the Occult, and various magical systems and are not specifically seen to be masters of such knowledge.
Orders Various occult organizations have steps in which an Initiate may ascend in their own magical system. Some call these steps degrees or grades. Golden Dawn In the magical system of the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, there are three different grades of adept. These are Adeptus Minor, Major, and Exemptus. According to the Golden Dawn's system of magic, each of the grades represent or correspond to a sephira or Sephirot (Kabbalah). A∴A∴ Aleister Crowley, who formed the A∴A∴, restructured the majority of the Golden Dawn's system, in doing so rewrote the system using mostly Thelema. This system still holds to three forms of adept. Temple of Set The Temple of Set, calls their steps degrees, and places adept second. Its system is as follows: Illuminates of Thanateros Also disinguished as degrees, the Illuminates of Thanateros, is a newer style of magic called Chaos Magic, which places adept closer to the top of their system.
